How many sets of twins did we have in our 8th grade class?
5 - Blaha, Downey, Driscoll, Luperini, Weber
What was the closing number at the 1969 spring music show…the grand finale?? And, do you remember what happened to make that final number soooo unforgettable?? (from John Kral)
“Up, Up, and Away”. The circuit breakers blew and the lights shut down
From John; And everyone ( except Mr. Dlugo ) thought it was by design and the crowd went insane…and shortly thereafter the auxiliary power came on; crowd still nuts - Mr. Dlugo had tears in his eyes… There was a balloon overhead with Christmas lights all over it and in the basket. It traveled from one corner of the gym to just over the boys heads in the opposite corner...during the song...just at the end, over MY head by a foot...me , Driscoll, Ptak...the tall boys on the top riser...

Trivia Tuesday
#1 - Did you know that a famous rock group (still touring) was “discovered” while playing at SJC? In 1972, Styx performed a concert at St. John of the Cross gym as Western Springs happened to be James Young’s (founding band member) hometown. As it turned out, a talent scout was in the audience. Soon after, the group signed a contract with Wooden Nickel Records, February 22, 1972. (posted 05/30/23)
Memories (submitted in the Facebook group)
Regarding shows that we did:
I remember doing a West Side Story dance with the girls at one point and then something about gypsies! (Debbie DeCicco Winkleman)
That’s what I remember and we did some dance. I still remember the song and some of our moves!! (Michelle Cronin-Pallastrini)
I remember Margie's sister Sam taught us the stomping and clapping for " I like to be in America" It took us forever. It was hard but we did it!! (Debbie DeCicco Winkleman)
That was a great number....and great costumes... (John Kral)
I seem to remember the “I feel pretty, oh so pretty” routine with Renee Roffi, Lu Lullo and Denise Madden, and others! (from West Side Story) (Beverly Zentz Waligora)
Regarding the Class of '69 picture:
What happened to our white lipstick? And why am I dressed like a member of Paul Revere and the Raiders? (Jodi Schlesinger Anderson)
Apparently it was popular- many of us had the same look!(Michelle Cronin-Pallastrini)
So fun to see everyone and remember names and faces! (Kathy Schwab)
Does anyone else remember singing songs from West Side Story in a cantata? I remember ‘I Feel Pretty’ and ‘Tonight’. Maybe ‘I Want to Live in America’ and stomping our feet too. Not sure who our choir director was though, thinking a nun or lay person? I still remember the words and being on stage in the gym so we must have practiced ALOT! I think girls-only chorus? (from Sandi Pepin)
